By working with an experienced tour operator such as Colpitts you can be sure that your students have access to the latest and greatest itinerary ideas and student-friendly venues around the city.  In March of 2015 the new Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United State Senate will open its doors on a site adjacent to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum on Boston’s Columbia Point. Colpitts will be among the first tour operators to offer the Institute’s unique, interactive role playing experience of government in action in their student programs.

Boston By Foot offers its popular “Literary Landmarks” walking tour to students and theBoston Book Festival is now in its sixth year, but did you know that Boston is home to the nation’s first cultural district dedicated to the literary arts?  A cultural district is a compact, walkable area of a community with a concentration of cultural facilities, activities, and assets.  Boston’s newly designated Literary Cultural District, which extends from Copley Square in the Back Bay to Beacon Hill and Washington Street downtown, will offer additional tours, special events and programming to ensure that Boston’s unique literary heritage  celebrated for years to come.

The district includes the Boston Athenaeum, the Boston Public Library – the first municipally funded public lending library in the U.S. and a Boston architectural landmark – as well as Benjamin Franklin’s birthplace and the one-time residences of celebrated authors and poets including Louisa May Alcott, Sylvia Plath, Robert Frost, and Khalil Gibran. In addition, a life-sized sculpture of Boston native Edgar Allen Poe, aptly titled “Poe Returning to Boston,” will be unveiled in October on a site at the corner of Charles and Boylston Streets, and a new Poe bust will be added to the Abbey Room in beautiful McKim building of the Boston Public Library.

Come and see for yourself why Boston has been the source of  ideas and actions for centuries of American life and continues to be a vital city of innovation and learning.
